  • Tailgate gas struts

After reading some good reviews on some of the American 4Runner sites about the Strongarm 'added lifting force' gas struts, I finally ordered some off ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371296164552

The original struts on my KZN185 were well past their best. You had to physically lift the tailgate open, but at least it stayed there.

I fitted the Strongarm struts today, and they work really well. Unlock the tailgate and it opens all by itself

I got stung by customs, but only for £19.71, so not too bad.

Anyway, just a heads-up in case anyone else has struggled to find a source.

    replacement struts

Hi, don't know what you paid, but guess it came to over £60, you should try this company, have used them before they are good for struts and Jacks, they are British and have good customer services.

Yep, I've used SGS before too and been pleased with them. Last time I checked, they hadn't got the Surf struts listed, so good to see they're up on their site now - good spot

        sgs engineering

I had dealings with sgs which less than good ,in fact quite bad. First they lost the struts that they insisted i send in to them, then when i finally got them back after two weeks of propping up the tailgate with a lump of wood, they had fitted the brackets on back to front.
The other issue i have is when the window is wound down the struts aren't strong enough to hold the tailgate up. To be honest though i don't know if they all do this.
The super strong ones appeal and will be looking into it especially if i don't have to send them away with the risk of never seeing them again.
I was going through a compensation case with sgs but in the end just wanted my life back so i gave up.

I'm on the lookout for some replacement struts too. The strongarm struts seem to cost just under £100 for the pair imported from USA. The SGS ones are £60 each and seem to have slightly different part numbers to the originals...

...Anyone have any links to alternative suppliers?

I will ring Mr T in the morning too
