  • Starting probs

Mum couldn't start the truck and called breakdown who said the starter motor is gone.
I've never replaced anything starter-related in the 8 years of ownership. Looking at roughtrax there are 3 items, the whole starter motor, a repair kit and the brushes. Since my mechanic would be fixing it, I'll likely just get the entire starter so he can swap it over.

What is likely to be the problem here? The brushes or something external to the starter such as the solenoid? I've asked her what happens when it doesn't start but will need to wait until she gets up given the time difference.
She said a few times before this there was a delay in starting when she turned the key.

I've tried explaining to her that she should know the truck by now and when things happen differently then it's time to look into it before a problem occurs.
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

    Starter motor

Hi I've got the starter Roughtrax kit for 3rd gen which is going spare if you want to give it a go. It's an easy job to replace the parts. Long and expensive story as to why it didn't get used! lol

      usually its the contacts. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-HI-...Ukc35A4Ho6X1PQ

Available as above. Easy job and easier still if your surf is lifted in any way. ( sus or body ) Not that your mum would be doing it I guess.

cheers guys. Bought a brand new starter from roughtrax as I'm not in the country still and didn't want any issues. Hopefully the mechanic keeps the starter, I'll fit new contacts and re-sell or keep as a spare.

I have 2" body lift and some suspension lift although I've had the mechanic lower the front a little bit a few times because my mum keeps going through ball joints. Had another one replaced at MOT time last month again. Too many BJ spacers! (Still probably less than $2000 AUD for a proper front end lift on IFS though).

If I remember right, you have to be paid members to PM, but neither dieselboy or indeed chefbondy are offering anybody a starter, only the contact kit and they are 13 quid on ebay, follow my link.l
