  • Intercooling mounting ideas

    Hi all,

Im considering the intercooler mod on my gen 2, but am after a few suggestions about where i can mount it.

I dont have a jack up kit so i guess under the bonnet with a scoop is not an option, (i also have additional water hose in the way), and i still have my a/c in place. If i was to mount where the bash plate is normally? Would that be sufficiant? As with regards to the hose routing, im sure i can squeeze that in somehow, but i never go off roading, and i dont have a bash plate any more, so to me this seems like the only place to put it, or would that not get enough air flow..? I know it wouldnt be in direct flow of air, so perhaps if i mounted it with the scoop sealed onto it where the bash plate was it would force air traveling underneath through it? Or is that just stupidty on my part?

I look forward to your responses

    Sorry James, I didn't realize yours was a 3.0.

The problem with the surf is the engine bay is too congested, and poorly laid out. (the air filter on the passenger side is a throw back to the naturally aspirated diesel). For an intercooler, something has to give.

We considered a chargecooler. On the 3.0, I think there may be room to get a barrel cooler over the top of the engine, then you can plumb the radiator where you want. It is easier getting small hoses around than big air hoses. Just need a small pump and pressure relief cap.

There are MR2 chargecoolers on ebay all the time, not too expensive
