    Evening

It seems to be a right pain in the arse to start my truck

    Symptoms are

Dead cold = almost impossible, but will start. Cut out and then start again
Warm ish - takes a bit to start
Up to temp takes a bit longer than usual

If i switch it off then re start again straight away it is fine, but if i leave it just 10'minutes it doesnt start straight away as before

This problem has occoured since playing with the fuel pump timing, but surely the fuel pump timing wouldnt cause poor starting? I have returned the pump to its original position but no better
I have fitted my new tcv but no better

I have put a peice of clear line in the fuel line to see for air, seems a tiny bit but not enough, once running it isnt down on power it pulls like a train! I fitted an outboard primer bulb, all this did when pumpted eas create pressure in the pump (i found out when i undid the tcv bolts)

so would it likely be glow plugs? They are only a year old and NGK's...

Im reluctant to go to all the effort of getting too the damn things if someone has a better idea what it could be

    Many thanks in advance

By pass the primer housing and see if the fuel filter housing is faulty. This can let air in and give weird symptoms

Not got the original filter got a heated one

It seems inline with changing the filter

Try all the easy stuff first, there is a gauze filter on the pickup pipe in the tank, remove fuel lines from filter housing and blow them through, check the tank breather it will be tucked away in the chassis down by the fuel tank. Bleed the air out of the fuel system thoroughly, I did a how to write up in another post. Check around the fuel pump, high pressure lines, injectors and leak off rail for any signs of a fuel leak. Check the rubber hose on the fuel return line from the leak off rail
Check timing control valve resistance 10- 14 ohms at 20 degrees c
Check spill control valve resistance 1-2 ohms at 20 degrees c.
Check spill control relay, you should have continuity between terminal 1 and 2 and there should be no continuity between terminals 3 and 5,
check fuel correction resistors should be between 0.1- 2.5 ohms at 20 degrees c.
I know its a bit much , but I always check the easy stuff first before you start getting into more complicated stuff.

            Thanks

It seems to have happened since fuel filter change

The filter in tank was cleaned about a month ago.

            New tcv
No warning lights but i will do everything youve said for now,

Got to drive home so shall do it fuel filterless and bypass it just to see if its that

Hmm! Problem solved but what a ballache

Got to work, blew back lines, found air leaking so sorted that, cleaned filters on the pump bled all through, took for a test ride around our industrial site and id left a spanner on the battery by mistake, which slid into the rad and punctured the radiator and destroyed the fan

                Not a good night

Ended up walking 10 miles home and got home at 3.30 am!!

All sorted now thanks for the help!
