Key stuck in ignition

Hi all

My surf has decided to hang onto the ignition key

Looked online and found if it's a sensor issue it will release the key if you disconnect the battery - which worked

But also if you turn it off just as you put it into park it will sometimes give it to you

My dilemma is - is it the park sensor, park/brake sensor or the gear stick is slightly in the wrong position. These have all been suggested on other threads as causes

Toyota want to charge me £100 to plug it in which may not even show a fault

Not sure how else to find out which it is without spending stupid amounts of money

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Hi, its common with the 3rd Gen Surf, is that what you have?
If so go to this thread: "ignition barrel, key stuck!" (by typing that into the search bar at the top), go to the last post, I've put up a pic of the the bits you have to disconnect to solve the issue, very easy.

my 2nd gen is like this, I have to put it in park and hold the gearstick forward to take it out
