  • roughtrax head question

    Quick one.

Building up roughtrax head. The threaded water pipe outlet they supply has a tapered threaded section. It goes 1/2 way into the head easily enough then gets pretty tight. Anyone know approx. torque setting for this kind of fitment? Don't want to do damage forcing in a taper.

I called roughtrax but they say they don't know ("we just sell them").
    Thanks.

If I remember I just screwed it in untill it "bit" and then tightened it fairly tight with a spanner. The alloys fairly soft so don't go mad it will seal ok as it deformed the thread slightly.

Thanks. Pretty much what I did. And yes, I noticed the torques are pretty low for some parts (but not all) into the alloy - hence my nervousness. Head is all together now and up at the garage. Fingers crossed she'll run.

        Put thread tape on it

If it needs thread tape, it's not right.

I think these tapers are meant to seal without tape, by slightly deforming the threads. Anyway, it was already pretty tight without tape and getting me worried so used a wee bit of thread seal and am hoping for best.
