  • Fitting intercooler to a KZN130 3.0

Hi folks I've just been searching for threads regarding this but couldn't find anyone that has done it on a gen 2 3 litre.

Has anybody and got a link to pics and stuff and would it be a usual L200 top mount job and bonnet vent?

I'm already on body lift as well so I have the room to fit it on top.

    Cheers

    Marty

Blizzards truck has the mechanical fuel pump which makes it easier to do top mount.

The surf 3.0 will need the 2 cables that attatch to the throttle body re-routed and new mounts made up. Easiest option is to try and find the bits from a 3rd gen intercooled version. Easier still is to buy the intercooler / cables / throttle body linkage etc off a breaker. The same setup is used in the prados I think.

        Some pics.

        Rob.

Before I fitted my snorkel I was thinking of using a pajero ic at the side of the engine.

Sorry about the dodgy paint but it shows how I was planning to route it.

That gives me a few ideas of how I'm going to fabricate the install

i prefer the idea of it not being over the engine for heat soak reasons

never found the answer to this, but if you get the IC parts from a Gen3 Surf, is it a straight bolt on fit (well apart from maybe cutting a hole in the bonnet)?

you can always retrofit a fan connected to the temp sensor some intercoolers got

Once fitted is any sort of 're-mapping' needed?

you don't have to. but remapping or chipping it can make use of the IC to make more power, but its not compulsory.

                          Curious

What are the benefits of an intercooler, i get that cooler air more oxygen etc, and i gather it increases power but does it also increase MPG?

it can increase economy IF its done correctly. even better if the timing is tuned for it to.

here is mine that I did

I bought a small intercooler off ebay, 1x 2.5" 135* silicon hose, 1x 2.5 to 2 " 45* bend and I already had a bit of hose to the throttle body end. I just cut up the original cross over pipe and fitted that where ever I needed pipe

I had cut in a nissan patrol scoop also
