    Hi Vince

I am having fuel starvation issues again.

This time, it's not the fuel filter (it's new) and fuel seems to be flowing freely from the tank, through the heat exchanger and through the filter, when I squeeze the primer bulb.

However, the fuel line from the filter then goes into the IP and that's where my investigative powers stop!

I removed the sensor that normally houses a small cylindrical filter in the IP and I am not convinced the filter is in there. At least, I can't get it out, if it is in there. There was a slight build up of sludge on the sensor.

Is it possible to come up at some point for you to have a look? Or would you like me to try something here first?

    Cheers!

    Hi Lyndon,

It's that time of year again! It was this time last year that you had this same pump issues.

    Remember these photos?......

If you can't get at it yourself, then Sunday is the only day I could have a go for you. It's like a Toyota Surf appreciation society here at the moment!

      Ha ha! No worries.

Yes, I'll have a go at that over the weekend then and see what I find.

I think I can get all those bits off myself, thanks for reminding me!

Hope you and the family are well!

      cheers

All cleaned up so I'll run it for the rest of the weekend and report what difference it's made.

Just for reference, I removed the spill control valve with a flat 32mm spanner that I had in a bike maintenance kit.

Vince, do you have one of those disc filter things from my other pump there? If you could clean it and post it to me, that would be great.

The reason is that the one I have is a little better than it was but I couldn't get it completely clear as I don't have compressed air.

What's the best solvent to use? I can soak it overnight then. Paint thinners?

Acetone type stuff is better, like nail polish remover. Being a 3rd gen owner, there should be some in your glovebox.

If it's gummed up with congealed veg oil, maybe try boiling hot water to clean it?

p.s. Your spare pump is in my other truck which is five mikes away.

Yes I do have some acetone! However it's use is purely as an additive to my fuel.. honest!

Well today the truck has behaved itself so I think a general clean up of all those parts worked.

When I know I have a weekend without driving, I'll take the filter out again soak it in hot water and afterwards acetone, to get the remainder of crud out.

            Next...

I'll be getting an exhaust in Feb. I am also considering a body lift. Are you OK for some odd jobs in Feb sometime Vince? I'll probably get a service kit together too.

            cheers for all the help!

I took the little strainer apart to see if I could clean it more effectively.

Here it is in its component form!

The third part from the left is a papery type gauze (although it is still metal) which I can't clean properly, so i reassembled without it. I can't imagine too much would come of not having it (?)

Anyway, as you can imagine, it is now very clean and fuel should whizz through it easily!

                My problems are continuing http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.php?t=81450

Vince, are you able to spare me some of your valuable time at some point please?

It looks like I won't be able to drive up as I can't get much power and can't get over 20 - 30 mph

So I am happy to fund a 'call out' otherwise I can try to organise a tow.
