Drive Shaft Question

Hi all just a quick question!!

When not in 4wd the front inner end drive shafts are loose, then when engaged they are solid which I would have thought is normal?
I think mine has a problem when not in 4wd because the drivers side is very loose.If i jack the car up and pull the wheel I get a clonk and movement (only once) and it will only move again once after driving it.The 4wd is working fine.
Is there anything I can adjust as the mot is soon?

If it was the bushes would the play still be there in 4wd? or when engaged would that play be taken up by tension?
I was maybe thinking snap ring knackered

Any play normally goes when in 4x4 as the shaft is being driven.

Are you getting and rattles when driving normally and not in 4x4 mode

No but i am getting vibration on the steering wheel when going around a corner and pulling to the n/s slightly. All the ball-joints and tracking/wheel balancing have been done and i cannot find play in anything-else.
