Fuel pump

The Surf has died, cut out, won't start....plenty of fuel, blown the fuel pipe back from the primer to the tank. On pumping the primer, no fuel is drawn up to the filter, the primer does not go hard. So I guess problem with the primer pump valve/diaphram.
Now can I fit a electric pump and inline filter instead of the hand primer setup?
This is the only problem I have had with the surf, 2 runs to the Czech Republic and went like a dream.

Hi, I found that I had to suck the fuel back up to the filter,( as in syphoning) as the primer wouldn't pull it back up, once the fuel was in the filter the primer worked fine.
