  • Surf 1kz-te code 14

    Hi from Mozambique,
I hope someone in this forum can help me to solve the problem that my Surf has.
I have an Hilux Surf (4Runner) from 1994, 3.0L 1KZ-TE, Turbo Diesel and M/T. and start to show the code 14.
Until the engine reaches normal operating temperature, no alarm, no strange noises, and the engine runs normally.
The manometer temperature reaches and stands in the middle of the scale in about 10 minutes or a little less.
Depending on the temperature of the day, a few minutes later, the engine starts to make a noise as if to hit valves. (out of the timing)
At that point the engine alarm lights up.
The alarm ECU shows is nr. 14.
The injection pump was checked at Bosch, and they only cleaned and adjusted the timing seems that was a little sidetracked.
We also replaced the diesel filter and air filter.
Everything remains the same. With the same anomaly I described at the beginning.
But I found that if pour water into over the injection pump, the noise disappears, and the alarm goes off.
The mechanic suspected of the ECU, but I disagree because I can not find the relationship between the temperature of the injection pump and the operation of the ECU.
I checked the Control Valve Timing with cold engine has 10.7 ohms and when the engine is hot but not be making the noise, shows 12.7 ohms.
Still could not measure the value when the engine is making the noise, so do not know if it will be higher than 14 ohms.
There is some more test to do before I resend the injection pump to Bosch ?
Unfortunately in Mozambique is not easy to find Surfs M/T so I can test the performance with an workimg ECU.
I am electronics technician, and I understand a little bit of mechanics.
Perhaps with help, I can be more sure about what is broken.
I've opened the ECU, and visually have not found swollen capacitors or any that have spilled.
I only find that the 220uF capacitor are more hot than the others. I am in the process to change all capacitors for new ones, but the 1uF bipolar are almost impossible to find in Mozambique.
Anyone know at which part of the circuit is connected this capacitor ? Is he related to the timing of the engine?

    Any ideas ?

    Best Regards
Working...
