  • 3.0 head gasket coolant holes

    Hi all,

Just got my head off my 3.0 TD LN130 AUTO, due to pressurising.

Head being sent off to be tested more for my own knowledge as im sure they will say its cracked in many places.

I am confused! Looking at the head gasket 4 of the coolant holes are blanked on one side and on the other the side the coolant holes don't match the size of the block and head coolant holes??? see Pics

    Can anyone explain this?

Looking at new head and gasket but even on Roughtrax and Millner Offroad sites there Gaskets also have no holes where the indent on the gasket is for the cooling holes? Is this right? This would explain the overheating issue as coolant on one side of the engine does not flow and on the other has to get through much smaller holes than intended when you match up the block and head.

I have to also decide where to order a new head from very soon. Does Stevo have any heads left for sale?? or are the roughtrax ones (AMC) good??

I don't want to put cheap rubbish on but also not pay the earth if I don't have to.

    Many thanks Matt

Hi, I'm 99.9% sure the blocked holes and reduced holes in the gasket are deliberate.

It's done to regulate the flow of coolant and oil round the engine, i.e increase pressure in some parts of the engine and decrease in others to maintain a healthy flow rate around all the engine.

I'm sure an expert will be along soon to confirm though!

I can't comment on quality or source of a new head as haven't needed one and fingers crossed never will!

    Cheers and good luck!
