  • Quick response please ...

Morning all, I was just about to change the oil in my 96 surf (3 lt TD) and realised the new oil i had was fully synthetic oil Mobil 1 TD 0w-40, not knowing what the old oil is, can I put fully synthetic in my surf or should I take it back and get semi / mineral oil ?

Hope to get a reply ASAP as we ate off to France.

    Cheers Andy.

From my understanding the oil you have is ok. The regular oil is a 10-40. The last number is the important one. The first number is to do with it's cold starting viscosity. The 0-40 oil will stay in a less viscous form than the 10-40, ideal for cold countries, but the hot performance stays the same.
    Hope this helps.

I have read that if you have been running on mineral or semi synthetic and you then put fully synthitic in you may find seals start to leak and you use more oil...does anyone have any more info...?

      Thanks for replying Sparlie67.

Fully synthetic oil is ok for your engine. Dont listen to the nonsense about leaky seals. If a seal is worn or defective it will leak oil, weather you are using Mineral oil or Synthetic oil. Even Possum fat.
