I have a noticeable "trembling" through the chassis at between 60mph-68mph - nothing alarming - but - it,s there - Toyota (three separate opinions) say that it is the Torgue Convertor in the automatic gear box and is irreconcilable - anybody have any experience of this ?

General advice- Check what revs this equates to at 60-68 mph then try the same revs in a lower gear.If the tremble isnt there then i suspect that it could be wheel balancing( poss rear) or prop UJs might need grease.
Im sure the Surf specific tech heads will give a wider approach.
Dont panic, a torque convertor (if it is ) is'nt "irreconcilable", just pricey.
Always check the cheap things first.
KeefA positive attitude wont solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort!

I had a vibration on mine. It started off at higher speed / revs but got to the stage that it was there all the time. It was a knackered propshaft UJ. Fixed it myself for about £10 with a kit from Milners. That could be your problem as mine felt like it was through the body.Mike G

I had a similar noise and feeling on mine at a similar speed. It turned out to be the lock-up clutch in the torque-converter.This is whats called the overdrive. Its basically a clutch that is engaged at a speed determined by the ECU and the gearbox. In effect,it locks the torque-converter up and gives direct drive to the gear-box .Driving normally this happens between 60-65mph.What causes the noise and vibration is the clutch slipping. The vibration feels like you are driving along the rumble-strip on the side of the road. The clutch is applied by hydraulic pressure from within the gearbox. The slippage can be caused by a low operating pressure or,like mine,a glazed clutch plate. The only cure is for the torque-converter to be removed and a new clutch plate fitted.A company in Birmingham does it ,but I cant think of their name.My local autobox repair shop turned mine around in five days. The torque overhaul cost about £220,plus £150 labour.Apparently, its a known problem with the 3.0ltr Land-cruiser as well.Hope it does`nt scare you too much and its some use to you.Don`t get mad,get even !
