  • Rear spring change.

    Hi.

Is this an acceptable way to change the rear springs on a gen 3.

    1. Remove bottom shock mounting bolts and split from axle.

    2. Using a jack and support, lift one side at rear on chassis, allowing axle to maintain position with wheel on the floor.

    3. check that brake hose doesn't become stretched at tee piece.

    4. remove old spring and replace with new.

    5. Lower vehicle and repeat on opposite side.

    6. Refit bottom shock mounts.

Or will i need some spring compressors.

    Cheers.

That way is fine but compressors make life easier.

Just noticed your in hudders, I have a pair of "used" rear springs & the compressors to do the job, takes about an hour with a brew in between.
Let me know if you need owt.

Thanks for the info. Springs are ordered from roughtrax this morning. If the compressors are needed will gladly give you a shout. Are you local to Huddersfield.

If your buying the 20% stronger springs from R/T then they are shorter than standard but once in, the surf sits higher .

        Check this out.

Yeah, gone for standard height updated ones. Did the shocks a couple of months back, but the ride is terrible. Feels like it bottoms out very easy. Then again the Rancho shocks do compress very easy. Hopefully the springs will cure it. The previous owner never had any shocks or springs done since it arrived in the country.

I found the ride alot better with the new springs.

If you need a hand I'm only in Bradford.

If rear feels better, will get bits ordered for front then. Been told its a garage job due to heavy springs on front. Apparently need heavy duty compressors for those springs.

Ye Roughtrax springs will fit in very easy. I got mine in by hand just pushed them in with no clamps at all. Was thinking something was wrong, but the ride is solid.

Which front springs are you referring to?

I am due to put my lift springs in, Just unsure what I am going to do with the panhard rod yet.

                      HI Rob

I am doing the rears on my gen 3.

Had a go last night but will need spring compressors. Can't get enough lift to get them out. Had shock and ARB drop link off to get as much travel as possible, but jack won't go that far.

Ah didn't see you had a gen 3 which confused me.

I have a pair of compressors. I can give you a hand with yours and you could do the same for me?

                          Hi Rob

Sounds like a good idea. When and where is best for you.

                          Regards

                          Andy
