After a run in the snow in 4wd for the first time I arrived home to hear the engine running on 3 cylinders.the 4wd was first hesitant to disengage now with the surf in my garage it won't disengage at all.have only done 500 miles since a cylinder head change so getting peed off.have checked the timing marks still line up and have done a compression test everything seems ok.blanked off egr when I did the head but left vacuum pipes as they were as it was running ok.blanked off the vacuum pipe going to egr tonight but still running rough.any ideas?

rough running,missing a cylinder
Removed injectors and one was wet with diesel while the others were dry with some carbon so I'll get them checked.i noticed that the old head had a lip for sealing washers for the end of the injectors while the new head had only a half round lip meaning seals would fall into the combustion chamber.anyone else noticed a head like this?

Can you swap the injectors about to check if it is defo a duff one? I dont know if its possible on the surf but i've done it on my tractor before.
Also the 4wd can be a bugger on mine to disengage, generally I have to be moving but not appling any power for it to disengage.

rough running ,misfiring
Injectors pressure checked today and were told there ok.when the engine was running l loosened each injector pipe in turn and the engine slowed down and fuel came out so hopefully pump is ok.maybe Santa will get me a running jeep for xmas

If the injectors are all good could it be a problem with the valves? I sufferred a bent rocker shaft in a landrover engine, the valves for the 1st cylinder wouldnt open correctly as the the rockers stopped rocking as the shaft went up instead....

Problem solved.after removing the rocker cover and turning the engine over my bro the mechanic noticed that no.4 exhaust cam lobe was no more, round,a dead camshaft.it was hardly moving the exhaust valve.there was no sign of wear but the lobe was near non exsistant.the new head came fully assembled so I think the cam came like this, just enough to make the engine run smooth until the carbon built up in no4 cylinder.cylinder head was a cheaper one from e bay so I'll say no more.didnt drive the surf long enough to know really what performance/mileage figuresi should have been getting but after putting in the good original camshaft it pulls like a train, maybe get better mpg to.hopefully the last of my surf problems.thanks for all the replys happy new year when it comes
