too much oil?

Just changed the oil and filter on my 3rd gen...took about 6.5 litres

When I filled it, came up about right on the dip stick, but now, after driving about 100 miles, checked to see if it had gone down any - and seems to have gone up! Is actually above the dot on the dip stick...

Should I drain some out - is a bit too much oil a problem?

A few mm above is ok. When you change the oil, always do when engine is warm. Oil flows easier then and allow as much time as possible, even up to a couple of hours while you do other things. The longer you allow to drain, the more dirty oil will be removed and the new oil will remain cleaner longer. When refilling do not fill to the full mark. Leave a little below the full mark and allow to settle and check level the next morning. The fresh oil will take a while to drain down to the sump.

Im sure an oil and filter change uses about 5,5 litres so 6.5 sounds like 1l too much.
