  • Faking a Fix on rotten rear quater bumpers

Hi - having just scraped through another MOT on the old truck, I'd promised I would replace the vile and corroded chrome quarters, until I saw the crazy prices for these on RoughTrax and Milners - nearly £200! Eh? the whole trucks not even worth that.... And s/h these seem unobtainable.
Anyone had any experience on filling rusty holes and dents and painting these over as an alternative to taking out a bank loan and replacing them? Any suggestions on how best to do that kind of repair would be helpful. I suspect getting any kind of epoxy, polystyrene or other plastic body filler to adhere to chrome might be a problem and I'm reluctant to take the angle grinder to the quarters as they may disintegrate completely and make an already awful cosmetic even worse. Or am I just being too cheap?....Keith

As above. I'm sure there was an excellent write up by someone who fixed his rear bumper inc pictures posted here.
I removed mine and quite liked the look lol

Hmmmmm.... as a true cheapskate, I kinda like the solution of just removing the rotten quarters altogether. The truck already has a couple of inches up on the suspension and on the body too , so I expect a bit more 'visual' lift won't do any harm, and it's mainly a forest truck now, collecting firewood and bumping around on muddy tracks. I suppose I'd have to remove the quarters anyway before trying to fill them, so it's no great hardship (if it ever stops raining here).....K
