LC fan in a 3rd Gen Surf?

Hi all,

This is a newbie question: folks here suggest replacing the 3rd gen fan with an 8 blade fan from a LC 80 Series. Apparently same type of attachment using four screws. Has it been done before by anyone out there? And is it effective? I have used the search to find similar thread/posts but not much luck...
