Hi i have a toyota regius it has the same engine as the 3.0 surf. i took the exhaust off from the down pipe to give it a good dose of under seal, while it was down i thought id take it for a quick drive to see how much difference it made not having the massive box in middle and small tail box. It seemed to me it felt sluggish?? i thought dirty d's didn't need any back pressure for them to spool properly? obviously the noise it makes might be throwing me a bit, any ideas???

I chopped my box out and welded it up with some pipe in its place and I felt there was more oompff from the turbo when it came on boost.

My understanding was that back pressure was regulated more by the wastegate than by the exhaust and on a turbo charged vehicle, regardless of it being petrol or diesel, the more open the pipe the better so as to remove as much heat from the system as possible, especially when uprating engine things...
Happy to be told otherwise as I'm only here to learn...======
Just gotta finish doing the next mod...

Thanks for reply.. i gave it a good bit of heave hoe down the road, but like i said it made so much noise it was hard to judge,
so the theory being it should give it more get up and go? ill know for sure when i finished making up the side exit with an inline silencer!!
Thanks for the input.
