  • Surf SSRX 3L, 130KZN - 1 KZTE Help

    Hi there

I am new in this forum, although I have been reading it for a while; I need your help guys.

    I have a Toyota Surf SSRX 3L, 130KZN – 1KZTE 1994 and I am having a trouble with fuel starvation over 2500RPM.

Let me give you a bit of pre-History

The car used to stall when you drive it and the problem became worst with the time as the car would not start at all, the Diesel Pump has been sent to be checked and it has been cleaned and serviced, the turbo has been done as well as it had a relapsed bearing and at the end the ECU was also done as it had a leaking cap.

The above surge or fuel starvation started after all the above were done, when the ECU came back and it was plugged in, the check light came on over 3000RPM with code 35.

The car was sent to the Turbo people and they checked the turbo and the pressure and confirmed that its fine, than I sent the car to the ECU people, the error code is not there anymore, but the surge or fuel starvation over 2500RPM is still there.

I checked the pressure sensor as per Manuel procedure and its fine, than I disconnected the pressure sensor and drove the car it loses a bit power but there is no surge or fuel starvation, the check light comes on, when I reconnect the sensor back the car drives more smooth but the surge or fuel starvation appears again over 2500RMP.

I am running out of ideas, could the ECU maybe not giving right impulse signal when the sensor is connected as when it’s disconnected the ECU goes into a limp mode and reads pre set information.

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sam

    Surging

Hi you dont say if you have changed fuel filter,i only say this as i had similar problem, not on my surf but on a motorhome with diesel engine would run sweetly at lower revs but when asked the question it would surge at about same revs, filter looked ok but vehicle ran as normal on filter change.

It has been changed last year, it looks good...what it puzzels me is that it did not have this problem before fixing the turbo, servicing the diesel pump and repairing the ECU.

I will get today a new fuel filter and I will post later if there is any change.

Just an update replaced the fuel filter a very slight improvement but there is still that fuel starvation just before 3000 RPM, going to take the car for a second opinion to check the turbo pressure and the fuel pressure in the diesel pump on Monday.....as the people who repaired confirm that its within the standard specifications .......

My truck did this when the tank filter got blocked, blowing down the feul pipe back to the tank cured it till its got shitted up again.

There are also small filters behind the fuel temp sensor and the spill control valve on the pump.

You normally get a code 14 or nothing for this fault though.

A before and after pic of tank filter.....
