  • please help, i think i messed up the electricals???

hi ya all, I made a terrible mistake. while replacing the battery, I exchanged the battery terminals accidentally and now the whole car acts like no battery is attached (no clock, no stereo, no lights when the key is on 'ON'). the headlights, the beeping sound, hazard lights, and the red lights on the doors work, but nothing else works. what did go wrong? fuse? please help?

    Yep, fuses.

Check them all individually, under bonnet and in the kick panel. Also check the 100amp charging fuse in the main fuse box.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

does the 100amp fuse has some kind of nut? I can't seem to be able to remove it.

Yes, it comes out from underneath, the whole assembly (80 and 100 amp fuses) slides up to give access to the 2 bolts.

do I need to remove the whole fuse box first or will the two fuses (80 and 100) only slide up? if so, how do I slide it out? (sorry I have never dealt with this part before)

p.s: as I have noticed now, there is a 100amp fuse on the place of the 80amp one. will this cause any side effects, though it never did?

I honestly can't remember what way the fuses go, the more I think about it; the more I think I may be wrong and they slide downwards. You have to unbolt the fuse box and slide them out down the way.

Yes, change it. Never put a fuse of a higher rating in anything.

waking up this thread again, i needed to ask one more question.

After replacing the 100amp fuse everything is back to normal but i didnt notice the radio wasn't working even after replacing the 100amp fuse. By then i just thought it was a problem of the 7.5amp fuse in the cabin. But now after checking the fuse, i can c it is fine (also the power antena works). What should i check, the radio doesn't seem tn have a fuse on it (its an old Kenwood DPX90)?

Radio decided it doesn't want to be a radio any more maybe...
or a connection on the back of it?

never mind, two fuses were inside the unit and one of them was fried. changed it and it works fine now.
