    Hi all,

I'm getting a vibration through the drive train in normal running but which disappears, or at least quietens, on overrun. Since our last holiday in July, when I was getting a knocking at about 35mph which I cured by greasing all the UJ's, I've also replaced a broken rear anti roll bar bracket, replaced the rear coil springs and re-oiled the fan viscous clutch. The vibration has only really been noticible since I did all that.

I think it's probably wear in the rear propshaft UJ's but it's years since I had a car that had this problem that I can't remember the symptoms. So, anyone else had/have this problem and if so, did you identify / cure the cause? As I'm off with the caravan again on Saturday I'm hoping that it's nothing too serious and that it can wait til I get back but I'd hate to have it break down on the way to Chester.

I've already tried a search on the Forum but couldn't find anything specific of any help.

    Thanks.

And don't you feel good for DIY'ing it?

Oh yes. Having had the Volvo for about 4 years and never having to touch it, I'd sort of lost interest a bit. Have taken cars / engines to pieces for years but having had newer / more technically complex stuff recently I just lost the habit.

The wife's Polo needs work now, so last week was putting on a new exhaust manifold and sorting out the front pipe. That was fun, especially having to drill out a broken manifold stud "in situ". Had to hire a right angle drill for that one.

But the Surf is great, especially being able to crawl underneath without having to jack it up on axle stands (so much room...) and everything built to last too. Still not sure about working on that engine though.
