yes perhaps is wise to test the ECU, so far everyone disagreed and also toyota.

reason is because the orange engine check light do not stay on. so would not show up on ECU faults, only few sensors would not show and, I bet the turbo sensor is not one of them. (timing sensor on the denso pump could not give fault code)

anyway I found one who may properly test it, in Bury

BTW anyone know a place near manchester to test the surf engine kzn130 3.0 td ?

An ECU can in fact give no fault codes if part of the KAM (Keep alive memory) circuit is damaged it's not common but it can happen. Best to have yours checked and then if it's OK that is ruled out, so it will then be down to checking everything associated with engine control.

When did it start using more fuel?
Have you allowed for the increased fuel costs?
Are your tyres inflated to correct pressure?
          How many gear shifts?
          Overdrive working?
Have you done the diagnostics test yet? (Don't say, "But the check light isn't on" do the test anyway!)
Have you fitted bigger tyres or any other bolt-on accessories recently?
Have you moved house and now drive everywhere uphill?
          Are your brakes dragging?
Have you started wearing heavy shoes recently?
Exactly how long is a piece of string?

You can't use nearly twice as much fuel as usual, and still pass an MOT emissions test, or even not notice black smoke.

Get it down here and I will, but will probably cost you to much in fuel...

Do you have a locking fuel cap??....if not get one and stop the thieving gits from nicking your fuel in the night.
                        .... Which was nice.

The consumption is back to normal after a little offroad, thanks god.

Maybe that's what they are made for... but I suspect can be the EGR valve not making the exhaust gas to be recycled properly into the intake.

Anyone came across similar issues having to replace or clean the EGR?

                                It's not the EGR valve.
