Doing Water Pump, Anything I Should Know?

As said, I'm about to embark on doing the sodding water pump so just wondering if there was anything anyone has done before that will help.

I assume it's rad out, belts off, lose plenty of knuckle skin...

Also, do you put any kind of sealant with the gaskets when re-assembling?

Scrape the gasket face as clean as you can, it doesn't need to be spotless. Use blue Hylomar on the new gasket.

I'd overhaul the fan whilst it's off.

I did my pump recently. You don't need to take the rad out,but you will need to remove the fan shrouds and the fan.As Albannach said,I used a smear of blue gaskit seal on each side of the gaskit. It's ouite an easy job actually!

Just adding to what 'S car Go' said above, you can leave your radiator in, but it is a very good idea to tape a radiator sized piece of cardboard over the rear of the rad before doing the work - it will save crushing of the fins when hit by a spanner or during part removal.
