Mine seems to be idling a bit low and sounds near the point of stalling. just above the 500rpm mark. I'm sure it was around 800/900rpm last week.

Mine indicates 500rpm and idles fine. IIRC it should be 750+-50rpm. The apparent low idle speed is probably an ECU issue.
Perhaps the OP had a sticky cable or linkage that's now cleared its self?Last edited by Albannach; 15 December 2011, 08:14.Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

try cleanin inside the throttle body on the inlet wit a bit of carb cleaner.
the bypass(or idle air control valve) which controls air flow wen the butterfly valve is closed is probably gunked up causin it not to idle properly it should be around 750rpm

I believe the manual idles lower than the auto, which do you have?
There is also a small allen head screw on the throttle plate that acts as a stop that can be adjusted to bump up your idle if you want it a bit higher.'96 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-G - RIP

Well it seems after abusing it for a day in the rain and mud and water (http://hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.ph...426#post748426) it sits on 750rpm quite happily.
It's an auto too.Still Can't believe I own a Hilux
