  • Replaced the pump, now it wont start

Well we swapped the pump today. Fired up for a few seconds, then spluttered and stopped. But now it wont start at all. I still have the same symptoms. as before.
Changed the spill valve and the throttle position sensor.
There still is no fuel coming out of the return when I turn it over. We checked that the replacement pump was drawing in fuel before we fitted it, by manually turning it and it did.

    Any ideas?

Did you prime the pump beforehand?
The fuel could be draining back to the tank and/or the diaphram in the primer is split.
If it started then cut out, you probably just burnt the residual fuel that was in the injector pipes.

Are you sure you're getting power to the SCV? You can put a multimeter in the socket, and you should be getting 3-5 volts with the ignition on.

I remember Yoshie having a nightmare for ages that turned out to be a broken wire in the loom to the spill control valve.

Yup, primed and full of fuel. There is also an inline pump to assist with the fuel delivery.
Yesterday on the old pump, it would only start with Easystart. It would run, but with a severe lack of power. Turn it off, again it would not restart without the easystart. Now we have bog all.

I'm getting about 2.5-2.8v But that is using a cheapo multimeter, so I dont know if its accurate enough. I suppose it could be a high resistive joint somewhere....

            easy start

Try and avoid using easy start, you will burn all the upper cylinder lubricant off the cylinder walls!

It runs....sort of. Smoking and knocking. I'm guessing its the injector timing. Thing is, rotating the pump either way makes hardly any difference. We left the timing belt on and we are pretty sure nothing moved.

                Over to you!

Sounds like the timings 180 degrees out it has been known to give the faults you describe..

That. Timing mark on the pump pulley should be at the bottom, where its harder to check, not at the top were something that could be mistaken for a timing mark is easy to spot..
                    it's in me shed, mate.

                      Errm....
It was dark on Thursday and I got the injector pipes crossed....
Anyhoo, It runs like a dream, but its puthering jet black smoke out when its booted.
Any ideas, I've looked through the search bits and cant really find anything relevant.

Getting error code 14 now. This indicates the timing control valve circuit. Where do I start looking? Not much joy on the searches, so if any of you gents could shed some light that would be great. Tony has now gone ex directory....
