  • Injector removal

ok I bought a deep socket 21mm for removing the injectors, but it's still slighty too short, this is the 2nd one I bought that's too short,

I want to remove the entire injector in one piece to swap them into the new head?

is there a special tool needed as these deep sockets are not reaching the nut.

    Cheers.

I used a 13/16" spark plug socket with the rubber insert removed when I did not have a deep socket.

Strange I had bought a 21 mm spark plug socket and removed the rubber grommet and was to short, so went to halfords and bought...well what they told me on the phone was a 'diesel injector socket' on getting there it was just a deep socket, its deep but not deep enough, will get some pics to show.

          cheers guys.

Halfords 21mm deep 1/2" socket. 3" long fits fine.

Is it possible your injectors are 22mm ? My halfords socket is the same as yours and fits the injectors on my trucks fine.

edit - there's nothing wedged between the injector and the head stopping it dropping on properly ? (nut off glow plug etc)

                  A Draper expert fits em.

an open ended spanner 22mm seems too slack, I would not have imagined the injector nut would have varied in size...anyone?

Halford sell em, that's where I got mine.

                        Amazon are cheaper though.

Any good tool store will sort you out with the correct individual socket though.

Sorry never seen your edit, no nothing blocking it , the threaded part of the injector(the very top) hits the inside of the socket thats all.

Thanks for that! I will take the socket back to halfords and see if they have any slighty deeper sockets! that is a good deal on amazon though!!

Just found this on a Landcruiser Forum.

For others wanting to remove their injectors from a 1KZTE (3.0TD) - you will need a 21mm deep socket, but not a Halfords socket (their inside diameter is not big enough to fit over the 19mm part of the injector).
