  • Beware Boris Johnson Low emission Zone

Good afternoon or hang the blonde headed twit Boris,

Just got a letter addressed to me, telling me my vehicle that has been notified to Transport for London by the DVLA that as it is a 4x4 light utility vehicle, correct and where is this going? the Low Emission Zone comes into play next january 2012.

You wonder, the policy is now all these types of vehicles that do not meet the Euro 3 regs and each day my vehicle is driven through these zones (january 2012) and is not registered being fitted with a special filter quoted £2,500 plus the fitting????? with yearly emissions testing added on top of the MOT, will be charged £100.00 fine each day!!!

So it looks like the end of my surfing day s are here, heart attack later, now slowly recovering to read further, Boris has arranged dealership discounts exchanges on my vehicle, depsite the emissions passing all MOT regs......sory for rude word '####er Boris' I'm one p---ed off bloke at the mo...

Your CAR is not a light utility vehicle it is an estate car, the DVLA have made an error on you log book. an LUV refers to a pick up truck which yours is not. Contact the DVLA nad get them to change it. then do a further compliance check and you will be fine.

This sounds pretty serious. Someone should make some enquiries with DVLA and maybe make a really big thread about it...

If they are serious, they could send letters and quote the replies? How radical would that be?

Just to add to this. Had a quick look at my log book. I've had this back recently too and it just says Toyota but no model name. Look further down and it's classed as an estate, Private and Light Goods.

Am i one of the lucky ones or is my log book actually correct??

                  Define lucky.

Mine is a 5 door hatchback.

My scooby sportwagon is to all intense and purposes an estate car but it also says hatch on the logbook when it doesn't even look like a hatchback.

However, IMHO i don't think you could describe a Surf as being a hatchback, i don't see it even if i squint lots, but at least that keeps you in the clear when entering low emission zones.

                    Better than nowt!!

It'll be a cold day in hell when I drive into London and we voted against those nonsense zones up here. So happy all round.

                      I still like lesbians though.

                      And it's intents, not intense.

                        just throw in my tuppence,

as many of our surfs are imports they will have been registered on import as PLG (private light goods)

If it were registered as a different class (i cant remember which) the tax per year would fall into the emmisions tax bracket, rather than year of manufacture. and as has happened to some of the skyline fraternity, you're then stuck with 400 per annum in tax bill for the car.

so as some of us have PLG on the log book, this is not necessarily the actual designation given the truck by the original classification, merely what it was registered as when it was brought into the country.

And so long as it stays like that my wallet won't mind one bit. Unfortunately I do have to go into London now and again therefore cannot avoid the DreadZone, so i am one of the lucky ones.
