Hey Wolfracer, now your sorted (and I'm awaiting payday to pay my subs again so I can't PM you at the moment) so I don't feel I'm hijacking your thread; when you did your lift the other day (which looks good by the way) you don't list changing the brake lines at all. Did you and if so where did you get them from? The Roughtrax ones list standard or +2 lifts only for the length they supply.

        Cheers,

        Ray.

AFAIK, you don't need to alter brake lines for a body lift, there is a coil of brake pipe in the engine bay that just extends when you lift the body.
The line at the rear still has room in it after my suspension lift, so that is fine also, however it is recommended to buy +2" line if you lift....
If you are concerned slowly jack the "body" up at the back and look at the brake line to see what play you have in it.

Sorry mate, I didn't supply you enough info.

I've done the 2" body lft and the 2" suspension lift with +2 coils and jacking the torsion bars but I want to go to the next level with 2" coil spacers and 2" ball joint spacers on top of what I already have (I'll probably reduce the front by an inch by the torsion bars so as not to wear the CVs too much even though I have done the diff drop and leave me with a total of 6" at the back and 5" at the front).

I thought you had a 4" suspension lift as well as the 2" body lift, maybe I read it wrong?

            Thanks,

            Ray.

Yep plus 2" RT springs and 2" coil spacers....
Still play in the brake line though. Think we undid the bracket from the axle though when we fitted the spacers. Must go and have a look tomorrow to confirm status now though.
Thing is the brake line is in the middle, so as long as it has enough drop when you take the weight off the wheels, any massive articulations will not stretch it any further...

Thanks, the last thing I want is spurty brake lines!!

Is it the same for the front?

I'd recommend changing the brake lines if you put longer springs and/or spacers on the back.

The fronts are a bit different. If you lift using the torsion bar only, no need to fit longer hoses; if you lift using spacers, then I'd recommend fitting longer hoses.

Thanks Albannach, do you know where to get some from? The Roughtrax ones say they fit standard or +2 only and as the original ones also fit standard and +2 I'm thinking they may actually be the same length?

I'll call them tomorrow and find out (unless someone can enlighten me beforehand?!)

I have spoken to some local garages and all of them can do the standard copper brake pipes but none of them can make up the flexible hoses.

                    Thanks,

                    Ray.

The +2 hoses from RT are probably all you need. There are longer ones, for a pickup, but I think the fronts in that kit are far too long for a Surf.

                      Barry will keep you right.

I use Roughtrax for most things so I know how good they are.

I'll get some ordered up before doing the full lift.

Forum to the rescue once more and I got paid today so my subs are going off again to show my appreciation.

                        Thanks,

                        Ray.

Had a look at my hose today, and it has plenty of room for expansion. If you have standard shocks on the rear they can't extend far enough to cause any issue with the brake hose.
Now, change the shocks for plus 2's and its another kettle of fish.
In short, you will be fine doing the lift with standard length hoses, ON STANDARD SHOCKS.
