Glow plug light

My glow plug light goes off almost instantly as soon as i turn the ignition on les than a second i think, normally on a diesel you would wait for quite a few seconds for the light to go out before starting in my experience. Should my light stay on for longer or do the coils heat up super quick and is fine?

It's just a characteristic of the 3.0 diesel Surf.

Just wait 'till you hear the clunk of the relay before starting.

with mine, I find that when its warm out, it stays lit for 1-2 seconds, but when its colder, it stays on longer
