  • Exchanging a 2,4 for a 3.0 engine

    Hello all,

I have my 1991 Toyota with the 2,4 engine.
    Manual gear box.
After 95k miles, the cooling system is starting to pressurise.
I am sure it is exhaust gasses getting into the cooling, and causing the top engine hose to blow off on occasion.

So, yesterday, I decided I will pull out the 2,4 and look for a 3.0 engine.

Which 3.0 engine should I start to look for.?

if you have a manual gearbox a 4Runner 3.0 will do, and save you lots of wiring issues, if you use a surf motor, you'll propably need the loom and ECU as well.

You'll also need the gearbox bellhousing, and I don't know how they relate to engine types, but there are different crossmembers to let the engine mounts line up properly and put the engine in the right place.

popular rumour has it this a PITA job to do properly, so will keep an eye out for cussing!

    lol

    Good luck.
