  • Turbo Whistle

I have a feeling that i know what the answer to my question is going to be before i ask it but here goes anyways .

For the past year i've noticed that the turbo on my truck has started whistling under load (i.e when accelerating in gear rather than in neutral) and over the last couple of weeks i've now noticed that its turned into a two tone whistle. Does this mean that my Turbo is on its last legs or is it something simpler like a split pipe/hose?

If it is the turbo what is the make/model number for it? I've seen reference on the search feature to the turbo for a 2.5 surf but not the 3.0.

    Any help is appreciated

      Hi mate,

I'd be looking for air leaks on the induction or,
boost side of the turbo first. Put little oil around
the pipe joints and look closely you will see it being
sucked in, or blown out. Check the rubber elbow
prior to the turbo has not split, (under the clip)
'cause they harden with age and often crumble
      away to dust.
      Hope this helps.

      Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

I have a very slight exhaust leak at downpipe and I have noticed a nice turbo whistle has developed.

Yours fixed now then? Mine is doing the same as Adsimpson's, bit of a racket under acceleration but nothing I can't put up with, its supposedly the gasket on the downpipe flange what I had to reuse as there wasn't one in the kit. H

My seat gasket went on the branch as it enters the engine after the throttle housing remade it using card and hermatite trouble free since

That side is fine on mine, all new gaskets, its drives side where the manifold bolts to the downpipe I had to reuse the old one and it probably needs nipping back up, done as good as I could but its awkward getting to the rear stud. H
