  • Water coming from exhaust

As the title says I got water coming from exhaust.
Driving along without any prolems then the tempreture shot straight up to the red, steam blowing from exspansion tank and water coming out exhaust. never had any problems with getting hot since we changed the rad and viscous fan last year.
So is this a new head and rebuild or could it be the Gasket ?

How much am I looking at in a garage or is it a possible DIY job.

    Cheers

It depends how handy you are with tools. A doddle for one will be a nightmare for another.

Worst case, and having it done for you, will be about £1k

Got the head off, found a hole in the pre-chamber along the edge of the steel insert. Second chamber from the rear has water in, the rest are dry and no real carbon build up so the veg oil dont look like its doing any damage.
going to find a place to have it tested for internal cracks and find out if the head can be salvaged.
has anyone come across this problem and had a successful repair done ?

Just cleaned it with Gunk, got a visible crack going across from the pre chamber to the valve seat, a new head from roughtrax is about 800 may just sell it as a breaker and buy another what are they worth as breakers ?

I would get another head, you have a 96 ssrg, to good to break.

Get a used head so long as you check it for cracks, some people break engines for parts so you need one with bottom end problems.

Well thats my opinion anyway for what it's worth.
If at first you don't succeed.........give up.

Ok before I buy a new head are there any signs of wear and tear that can be spotted easier with the head off. I put plastic bags over the block and all the ports leading to the Turbo, the turbo looks oily in one of the ports is this normal ?

Got a new head from roughtrax, fitted it yesterday not a bad job but refitting some of those vac pipes was a real pain.
Runs well I need to get a length of vac pipe as some of mine are a little short as I left parts connected to the nipples on removal, cannotbolt the actuators back to manifold.

any idea if these rubber pipes are easy to get hold of.
