  • Another power steering problem

Hello, i've used the search function and I thought i'd got an answer for my problem but now i'm not too sure.
When turning the steering wheel, especially when cold, the steering wheel vibrates and makes a humming noise. From searching i'd found out that maybe my power steering belt might be loose and needed tightening up. Having looked underneath it I can't seem to find a power steering belt so I had another search and someone mentioned that the 3.0l doesn't have a belt only the 2.4 instead it has a pump.
So if it does have a belt I might need to just tighten it, but if it doesn't what could be causing the vibration?
I do have what looks to be a leak from underneath the engine but it looks more like engine oil not power steering fluid.
    Hope someone can help
    thanks
    Dan

Have you checked the power steering fluid level ?

the fluid level is OK but thankyou for replying. It's going to the garage tomorrow to look for where the oil leak is coming from so we'll have a look at the pump tomorrow as well.

        Jeez, you bust it already?!

There has always been the odd small weep of engine oil from the truck. Not enough to leave any on the road, just enough to dampen the underside. Stops it rusting!

I have no idea if it uses the belts, but the belts were replaced last August or so so should be fine.

lol, it's not too bad, there's a little pool starting to form on the garage floor, so I thought i'd get it looked at. From a quick look I think fixing it is beyond my mechanical capabilities so it's going to the garage. I think I bust the steering pump getting in and out of my garage, it's a a fairly tight turn every day

Mine was making a rumbling noise one morning on start up, took it to the local garage and he topped up the power steering fluid and the noise went away

I've since noticed a leak on the passengers side front of the car, the spot where the sump guard is bolted on, is wet with oil and the hose above it is also oily. I can only presume I'm leaking power steering fluid from this hose.

There are no marks on the driveway so it must be leaking when warm

Anyone had to replace this hose?

It's more likely to be the seals in the pump.

cheers, i've got another pump on the way so i'll let you know if it cures the problem. I looked at replacing the seals but it seems a bit too technical for my abilities so i'll try a second hand pump first.
