Advice required

Hi Can any one advise if there are any difficulties in removing the transfer shift actuator assembly from a 3rd Gen 3L auto diesel. It appears to be held in place by 3 bolts and a bit that links into the transfer box. If the motor is knackered can it be refurbished and who can do it?

There is a vacuum hose on the unit and am not to sure how the thing actually works.

Whatever you do, don't remove the whole assembly, the solenoid is spring loaded and will pop out and is virtually impossible to put back correctly.
The electric motor part however, can be removed via the three screws and plug.
The motor is just a plunger to activate the solennoid part, so I guess it can be clean and lubricated.

Have you check all the electrical connections are sound and working using a multimeter first?

4wd problems - 3 gen 3L diesel auto

HI Bushwacker - thanks for your response. The failure of the car to engage 4WD was diagnosed as due to this unit by an autoelectrician, however a gearbox specialist advises that this unit only switches between high and low ratios in 4WD and has nothing to do with the engagement of 4wd. Hence the flashing lights on the cars dash. Before I go any further any ideas would be very welcome - all the best.

Hi Mate I Had The Same Problem With My 4wd
I Had Flashing Lights For 6 Months And Having
Replaced Nearly All The Pipes And Switches
The Last Thing To Check Was The Shift Actuator
Make Sure You Mark The Exact Way The Top Plate
Came Off.after Removing Mine We Could See That The
Electrical Contacts And Connections Were All Corroded
After A Bit Of Sanding And Cleaning And Refitting
Hey Presto The Lights Stopped And The 4wd Engaged
Make Sure You Reseal The Top With Some Decent Silicone
Sealent !

Cheers for your responses they are very encouraging. Before I take tools to the beast can you confirm which screws and or bolts you removed to access the bits that may need cleaning. Is it the bolts shown in jpg 001 or the screws shown in jpg 005? I am concerned that lots of bits don't fall out that I can't put back together.

Cheers for the advice Johny - I'll call your mechanic and get his advice. Just to to confirm it's the plate that has the wires running into it that should be removed.

alright bushwhaker i read one of your threads and this solonoid bit am i right in saying its under a small disk like piece with a circlip, and im thinking this could be the reason for my problem i posted the other day because i was really clever and removed the plate and a cilinder sprung out i pushed it back in after some amount of oil coming out and am now suffering with intermitent revers and pullling power many thaks dude
