  • Oil Levels???

    Hi guys.
Just changed the oil in my 1995 3.0td surf.
Only dropped about 3 litres of oil out, including the filter. And when topping up, 4 litres of oil took the level to just over max on the dipstick.
I know i'm gonna sound stupid, but is there a second drain plug or oil cooler that would stop some of the oil from emptying out?
Beginning to wonder if i've bought a nail, as i'm still having issues with the 4 wheel drive not engaging.

Might have a sump full of gunk. I think the 3Ltr takes 7 litres of oil.

My 3.0TD takes about 6.5 litres of engine oil.

How far up the dipstick would you say the oil comes to from the bottom?
Not sure its the right dipstick.

Without oil filter changed 6.4 litres

With oil filter changed 7.1 litres

The oil when full sits about an inch up from the bottom of the dipstick.

          See post number 3.

Thanks for that, then there is an issue with it. Strange thing is, when the oil is drained, nothing shows on the dipstick so it can't be stuck in the sump.

might be worth running an engine flush through it..

I was thinking that myself, but didn't want to end up running around with flush in the engine if it doesn't all drain out afterwards. Was thinking of maybe dropping the sump off and having a look. Is that difficult on a surf?
