      Hi legocar,

Does your truck have an alarm/ imob? I had a similar problem
with mine, it would drive OK then just stop!! it was a wiring
problem on the fuel shut off valve curcuit on the alarm/imob.

      Hope this helps.

      Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

So that we don't start repeating ourselves, can you list ALL the things you've proven to be not at fault?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Ok, this is what I've done/ looked at / checked so far.....
          • Fuel Filter (main) - replaced
          • Crank Sensor - replaced
          • Vac hoses - checked condition and connection
          • Fuel supply and return pipes (from tank thru filter to pump) - checked condition
          • Wiring harnesses - checked condition and connection
          • Suction at Filler cap - none present
          • Manual Primer Pump - appears to work ok
          • Fuel tank Breather Pipe(?) non-return valve - checked operation
          • Alarm / Immobiliser - none fitted
          • Fault codes - none registered

          and these are some observations
          • Fault doesn't occur till after the engine has warmed up
          • Engine will idle "forever" without stalling, fault ONLY happens during deceleration but doesn't happen all of the time
          • Engine runs smoothly the rest of the time and pulls like a freight train
          • Engine won't start at all for a few minutes after stalling, then starts easily

these are some of the things I'll be looking at next
          • Fuel Pump Filter - once I've worked out where it is
          • Fuel cut-off Solenoid (if there is one) - check function (or just replace if its easy / cheap enough)
          • Fuel supply at injectors - don't expect this to be an issue but....
          • Drain Fuel tank and look out for contaminants

          and finally some more questions
          • Does anyone have any exploded view diagrams of the 3ltr Diesel Engine, or in particular the fuel pump?
          • Is the 3 ltr KZN-130 engine fitted with a Fuel Cut-off Solenoid or a Spill Control Valve?

PS - thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this thread and thanks to Stormforce for the offer of selling me a replacement pump, etc. I'll definitely be interested if it comes to it, but at the moment I see that as a last resort......

OK, I'm begining to think it's ECU related now after you said it doesn't happen untill the engine has warmed up but will idle all day no problem.

You could pull off the multiplug on the transmission and change gear 'manually' with the stick to see if the problem goes away, then you'll know it's a transmission fault and you need a replacement ECU.

I did try switching it into neutral before slowing down (so that I could blip the accelerator to keep the revs up) but it still stalled eventually.

Sorry about the following questions, but I'm on a steep learning curve here
When I was lying underneath the car today (checking the fuel lines) I did happen to notice that there are a few wiring connections into the transmission.... which one should I disconnect?
And what did you mean by "change gear 'manually' with the stick"?

There's a black plug with three wires coming out of it, on the pasenger side of the transmission, this is the signal wires to the ECU.
With it disconnected, the ECU won't receive any imformation to what the engine is doing or how fast the wheels are turning.

Changing gear 'manually' on an automatic means using the gear lever and selecting and pulling away in L (1st gear) then shift into 2 (2nd gear) then D. keeping your foot on the accelerator as usual.

Something else to try in your process of elimination anyway.

                  Here's something you could try.

On top of intake is the venturi and attached to it is a UFO shaped thingy (non technical term) which has two vacuum hoses attached. Remove and plug the top one and test drive. Let me know if anything changes. If nothing changes reconnect.

                      Here's the fuel pump diagram.

Look at 22602, this is the filter which is under the fuel temp sensor.
