  • Timing really wrong, Injector pump coming out

Just started to take the cambelt off to have a look at whats going on inside the timing case.

Basically my injector pipes are fitted incorrectly and the pump is near 180 degrees out.

Do I need to remove the timing gear that connects to the injector pump to put things right ?

Heres some pics showing how the marks are right now (and yes it does start and run, just about )

The cam is 1/2 a tooth out, and the pump mark is almost opposite where it should be.

yup, thats a bugger, the crank and pump are timed behind the front cover with gears!

PITA, someones really put it together badly!

I'd chack the crank and pump are put on properly, make sure the woodruff keys are there before stripping to much out. They might just be left out and the pulleys bolted on.

      Cheers Tony,

I've given up today as my breaker bar broke doing the crankshaft nut - by the time I got back from buying a new one and tried a few more times the batteries went flat (they need replacing but not a priority)

So they're on charge and I'm in front of the fire with a nice cold beer...

      Try again tomorrow.

      Rob.

edit: batteries charged, crankshaft nut off, woodruff key is in there so all good so far. Should have the timing cover off tomorrow to see whats going on.

crank pulley should be f**k tight, I have a 4' 3/4" breaker bar for 3.0 crank pulleys..

        lol

        It's something like 260 or 300 ft/lbs if I remember right.

Yep manual says 268 ft/lbs. No wonder my 10 year old breaker couldn't handle it. Had to get a Halfords pro one which was fine. (only shop open this afternoon - lifetime g'tee so not all bad).

A bloke at works got a dead posh torque wrench which goes up a lot higher than mine (mine goes to 160)

Looking forwards to the horrors in the timing case tomorrow.

          Rob.

As much crap as we give Halfraulds, their 'Pro' tools are actually pretty good value, especially when you have a Trade Card. I have quite a few now.

I've got a full Halford Pro socket set which has been brilliant. The breaker bar doesn't look as tough as the socket set stuff, which made me worry a bit as the old one was a lot bigger around the head. Has worked though so all good

Why oh why would the puller for the 3.0 crank pulley be different to the 2.4 one. ?

Making one tomorrow, so not much will happen for a week now

                Rob.

Must get round to making an adjustable one.

Just took the timing cover off tonight and am pleased to say that every single gear is mismatched to the next one

I can't understand how anyone could mess this up as they're all numbered....

Looks like I need to pull them all out and refit properly.

Took pics but it's dark and you'd never see the numbers on them.

In the end it only needed the big idler gear removing and refitting to get it all lined up (I decided the idler on the oil pump was not worth it as it's not connected to anything to do with the timing)

New crank seal and pump seal fitted and the injector pipes are back in their correct places (waiting on a replacement for one but the old one fitted for now)

Just got to put everything back together through the week and hopefully it should start better..

                        Thanks Richard,

I've fitted 3 good ones and re-bent no.2 to fit but it's always handy to have a spare

                        Cheers,
                        Rob.
