  • What should I be paying?

    Guys,

A dealer has given me a bell this arvo. He has a 3L TD manual Surf. Silver in colour. Its done 150,000M, L reg (94 I think?) so I am suuming that is a 1st Gen?

Came to the UK in 2004 had 1 owner since then, totally clean in and out etc, 1 years MOT New BF all terrain tyres etc, all electrics work apparently.

I personally wanted Dans, but need to sell the Alpha and Sportrak, but think he will take part x (yet too see)

Just when I look at some of the 2nd Gen's available then I think this guy is asking a lot of money. I wont give the price he has given me, just want to see what you lot would expect to pay for it?

    Nic

    No more than 2k.
Tell him there's loads about for sale for under two grand and that you're a member of a Hilux Surf forum, if he won't budge on price.
    'L' reg is a 2nd gen.

So L reg is a 1994 and it is a 2nd Gen, ok thats interesting. Because when I asked he said it was a 1st Gen, and he is supposed to be an import specialist!

Makes me laugh, I have just been reading the 4WD thread in the FAQ's and this fits in very much with the general gist of dealers in the main not knowing nowt!

I asked him what he wants for it and he said £2,695 which I thought was well over priced, so you seem to confirm that.

Shame, because I really want to get it asap, been waiting ages to get a bigger car back what with the 2 big dogs and all the fishing gear it is perfect for what I need it for. I just dont have the cash so need to do a part X, so Ill have to keep looking! lol

There are some crack-pipe prices around, for sure. I've mailed dealers of decent-looking ones asking for a real-world price, and they steadfastly refuse to remove their head from the sand of la-la land.

        Their loss.

£2.7k is steep when you take the mileage into account. I don't think I'd pay more than about £1700 for it. The again its a manual, so its comparitively rare and will be a good bit better on fuel than an auto.

          £1850 tops.
