quick water temp question

what is the optimal temperature for the rad and where is the best place to install a autometer water temp gauge?

Hi mate, I have an engine watchdog temp reader, and just bolts to the engine, I have mine bolted to thermostat housing, normal driving it reads around 85 degrees C, but it just goes to show how bad the original gauge is, as my dash gauge reads normal (half way up gauge) at 45 degrees and is still in the same place at 85 degrees.
