  • No Rear Brakes

    Hi,
Has anyone come across this problem ? before I start renewing things.
thought the brake pedal became a little hard and the brakes felt funny, nipped down to the local garage and put my surf 1995 ssrx 3.0 across the rolling road and behold the front brakes were great and up to spec an the meter, put the rears on and pressed the pedal and zilch, !! nothing on the meter at all,, is it the LCV, or maybe the master cyl,,, any offers??
    cheers in adavance.

Hello and welcome to the forum, blue star too !! you must be serious. Does the handbrake work ? Its not uncommon. If you never use the handbrake its even more common. Chances are the self adjusters stopped self adjusting a long time ago. If you are an offroader the rear drums are also likely to be full of "foreign matter " which will have assisted in gumming up the works. Strip and clean, free up and lubricate self adjusters. Fit new shoes as required, and Robert is your mum or dads brother.

I,ll let someone else, moan at you for not saying hello and doing the formal introductions first, and to save some of the others a bit of time I will trot out some of the customary welcomes.

Welcome to the nuthouse, look out for the squirrel
Welcome to the Surf emporium of pleasure
Some of the people in white coats are inmates
Welcome to the home of insane surfers and something about watching out for toxic Yetis.
    Think that about covers it.

      apologies, Im A returning newbie

Hello all, sorry for not introducing myself last night, (it was late!!).
I was a member a cpl of years ago then work went haywire and we moved house an all that goes with that!!! so I now have more time to get back to my interests, mainly my surf which has been sadly neglected for the last year or so. She has worked hard transporting all acorss the island(Anglesey) in a horse box as well as the two horses of my beloved. So to explain, the handbrake is ok and she passed the MOT, 4 months ago. No off roading, so no sxxt in the drums it just seem to happen over the last few weeks, intermitant at first, a hard pedal, but a good shove with the boot and it was ok for a cpl of days , then one day the shove didnt work and it has not been working proprly since. Thinking back, I think it started when I applied the brakes hard one day to avoid a boy racer. Also I had a poke arounf under her today and found the sring rod for the load compensating valve is bent, maybe it is supposed to be but it is straight on the diagram in my manual, any ideas, please, anything would be a help.

          Hi mate,

If the hand brake works OK and no crap in the drums,
it could be seized wheel cylinders, whip off the drums,
and try the brakes, gently, or the pistons may pop out
without warning. (Try one side at a time tho).
          hope this helps.

          Gman
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.
