Cheers. The problem i've got at the moment it I can get the ball joint apart - taken the castle nut off etc but the tips of my spliter are too thick to get into the gap. Tried various things for 3 hours yesterday. No luck so far! (bolts are still on and the idler held in place - I guess i'm not hitting it hard enough?)
Any tips? Do i hit the idler arm from behind towards the wheel or knock downwards on the part the thread goes through..?
      Novice warning lol.

Try Holding a Club Hammer behind the ball joint n clout it on the opposite side with a good 2-3lb hammer, a couple o good blows should do it...
        Good Luck

Been hitting a splitter into the joint with a 12lb hammer for an hour. Just bounces out. Gap not opening a bit.
          Still no luck
          Would heating it help?

Tap the casting, (or other linkage), that the taper fits into, not the idler joint/arm itself. The term tap is to be taken with a large pinch of salt, btw.

you could give it a hosing with WD40 and try again tomorrow...

Oh, and it's two grunts, a huff and a wheeze BTW. Two grunts isn't enough.

                  Update....
                  Still stuck tight.
The threaded 'bolt' is now starting to flex and looks like it is pulling away from the arm itself rather than popping out of the hole.

If ya haven't already try loosening the 3 bolts on the Chassis (holding the Idler arm on) n see what happens !!!
                    Good Luck ..

Undone the 3 bolts. Bl00dy thing sat there smiling at me. So I took a pic.

I've tried a screw ball joint remover but that started to mash the thread. (Should have kept the nut on.. I know )
                      Tried hitting 'down' on 'b'
                      Tried hitting a fork splitter between A & B.
Just worried the threaded stud will pull out of 'A' now as it is flexing..

Just for the record what is the correct name of 'B' please so I can swear at it?
Would heating 'B' help at all?
                      Thanks

get a balljoint splitter with the bolt on it to do up and then it should come apart easier.
the other part is the steering rod gear which is the part for the recall notice

Maybe get the recall done and tell them they can keep the old idler too

                            Ah! Excellent idea.
If I bolt it back up will it be ok for the short 1 mile trip to the dealer?
                            Cheers

you will need to talk to toyota uk about the recall and give them your vehicle details and they will say if you need it done or not.Do a search for the recall and there will be a contact number to ring
