  • Quick idler removal question.

    Hi.
I've ordered a new idler from roughtrax as mine has excessive play for the upcoming MOT.
Can you look at the pic and tell me if all I need to do is undo the 3 bolts marked with red dots then use my balljoint separator at the point of the red line i've crudely drawn!?

Anything else I need to undo before using the separator?

    Many thanks again!

    thats correct.
you may of gotten away with just renewing the 2 bushes in the idler rather than replacing the whole unit

Take the nut off the balljoint first. Then separate it before you take the 3 mountings off...
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

So the castle nut must be removed then?
Is it just a case of pulling out the pin with needle nose pliers and undoing the nut? Does it need to come right off?

Is there specific torque to refit?
            New nut or pin needed?
            Thanks.

You'll get them with the new idler. There will be a specific torque, but I don't know what it is.

The nut needs to be as tight as you can get it, but with the holes and the castellations lined up. Only tighten the nut, don't turn it back to line up the hole.

                          Got my parts today.
Will fit this weekend - one more stupid question, it has a grease nipple - undone - no grease. Should I 'pack' it with grease or just inject a bit in...?
                          Thanks

Yep, get as much in there as possible, through the nipple, don't try and stick it in through the hole!
