  • Steering Problems

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I was last online. Since I have been training away I have noticed that my steering is a bit vague sometimes. When I bought the 3.0l the steering felt tight and positive. Now it tends to wander slightly, sometimes more than other.

It has just been for it's MOT and I asked the mechanic to check underneath the vehicle thoroughly and he was pleased and suprised at how good and clean it was. He used a bar on all the joints with no play at all.

Has anyone had any problems like this before? Cheers for any suggestions

Not that i am aware of. The truck is pretty much standard. It is L reg 3.0 KZN 130. I Am running 31 inch kuhmo mud terrain tyres. but have had no problem with them at all. All Pressures are fine. I think i read somewhere about recalls, would that affect me?

just checked the dog and lemon guide for steering recalls and all three of my trucks are in the recall zone. none of them have any form of yellow marker or sticker. so i think i will need to ring up and sort it out.

does anyone have any other suggestions as to why my 3.0 is still feeling really spongy on the steering. its feels like its on ice sometimes

Have jus Failed my MOT: blank: on steering? it 's the bit that’s attached on to the front chassis on the near side cannot for the life of me remember what he called it ...(old age thing) ??
Got ideas if covered by a recall notice I have rang the very nice helpful people in Toyota GB and they will check and get back to me via email (impressed!)
But thought I might help the nice people on line.

Do you mean your idler ?

If so that is not on the recall.

that will be the steering idler. If theres play in it then get the bushes from roughtrax as they are only a couple of quid each and thats cheaper then buying the complete idler if its not needed
Its the steering rod gear thats covered by the recall and not the idler

quite often the play is caused by the 2 plastic bushes in the idler so for about £12 delivered it may pay to do them first but if you just want to put a new one on to save taking it off agin if its not the bushes then go for the complete unit

Me thinks I will go for the lot as idler and the end of the arm is well worn so £55 squid should be the biz. only three bolts I can sort that!
