  • Expensive batteries?

I just bought a pair of batteries for my '92 Surf.... £143 for a pair (LH and RH) 70AHr with a 3 yr warranty fully charged and ready to go...
this seemed a tad steep - is this the going rate?

Also can anyone confirm or deny these reasons for replacing both batteries at the same time.
    a) Both batteries need to be replaced because the older one will drag the newer one down and cause premature failure.
    b) The batteries feed different sides of the starter coil so if both batteries aren't replaced then its possible to burn out the starter motor.

The first sounds feasible but the second sounds like Bull to me.
NB neither of these reasons were given by the factor who I bought the batteries from; but I've heard them from 4x4 'experts'

Not sure what lead prices are like at the moment but they were partly responsible for the boom in prices for batterys etc.

genuine toyota ones cost me around £50 each a few months back.

The first fact is correct. A bad battery will knacker the other one...

    the 2nd fact i think is sh!t...

            Batteries in France

Laugh, I could scream looking at those prices. I had battery failure x 2 here in south of France back in late summer...wait for it...it cost me £333 to replace them both, and that was at the exchange rate of €1.34. Imagine now at €1.o4 !!!

Replaced mine in Nov. Got them off ebay and collected from a place in stockport cost £50 each incl VAT. Local quotes were £75 plus VAT.

He only had one of the types I ordered so he gave me an uprated one... Brillient company to deal with.
They have two sets of connectors so can be used on either side of the car.

I got mine in Rochdale last year from these guys...

                        http://stores.ebay.co.uk/THE-BATTERY-MANs-SHOP

                        I got two new double-terminal 700cca batteries for £110 (£55 each)

One of their lads helped me fit them, tested my old batteries (one was good which I've kept as a spare and the other was knackered, so they disposed of it for me)

I would definitely recommend these guys - friendly, helpful and a good price - he asked where I'd heard of them so I told them this site, and they seemed quite pleased about that - they obviously do a lot of business through us!

                            Car Batteries

Sorry its late but I missed the last post on this subject and was just re-reading old stuff.

I got my batteries from Rochdale not stockport as I said earlier.
The man is big on ebay just search car battery and look for alpha-products-man
I paid £50 each on a best offer deal

                            or here is his address
ALPHA BATTERIES, Unit 110, (ground floor, West Wing, Spotland Bridge Mill, Mellor St., Rochdale, Lancs., OL11 5BU
                            tel 01706 356356 01706 356356
He is also the Battery Man as mentioned above.

I just recently returned one of my pair cuz it went duff (11 months into the warranty) and he replaced it without question. He gave me a better one cuz the original was out of stock.
Well impressed and would certainly deal with him again
                            John

Just got 2 Bosch Silvers for 51.95 plus the dreaded at Euro Car Parts in Aldershot. I'm sure that's what the phone price was quoted but desk man had them at a tenner more. Not much of a quibble to get the tenner off. Cheaper than budget batteries online.

Well happy (or as I can be having found a hole in the top of one and no start this morning)

I had to ump start off one of the new ones once I got outside. All fitted now and starts a treat. One question, there are no clips or clamps for the batteries on mine, seems odd.
