  • Hydrogen System??

    Just spotted this on Autotrader.

A Gen 3 Intercooler with H2O Hydrogen system fitted, to improve MPG.

Any one with info on this system, or is it just a JDM oneoff ???

Do some independent backround reading (ie, not on the pages of people trying to flog systems) and I think you'll find that 'proper' scientists will suggest that whilst in theory, its workable, in practice, it takes so much energy to create worthwhile amounts of hydrogen, its just not worth the effort.

im using fairly hypothetical numbers here to make the maths abit easier, so bare with me...

if for every litre of diesel used, you add 100ml of hydrogen, you get something like 10% more power.

to use one of these under bonnet "converters" to give you this hydrogen, you have to burn somewhere along the lines of 5 litres of diesel to make 100ml of hydrogen.

if you take into account the 10% increase in power by adding the hydrogen to the mix, you can make this conversion using say 4.5 litres of diesel and 450ml of hydrogen.

so to make 100ml of hydrogen, you need, at a minimum, 4.95L of fuel... you will need 450% more hydrogen than you are actually making, just to break even.

you cant get something for nothing, thats the way it always will be
