the other day, after a long drive, I turned into my destination with a sharp turn to the left. While doing so, my CD Player and Sat Nav switched off, and my engine cut out!! On straightening, through the momentum, I managed to get all started again. However on parking, all shut down once more. As I sat there, perplexed, the car started to fill with the fumes of Acrid Electrical Smoke. I leapt out and opened the bonnet to find to find the nearside Battery Positive terminal Arcing on the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir!! The part where the Terminal end connects to the Loom - the bolt had become slack, allowing the metal connector, (that WAS covered in Electrical Tape), to come into contact with the reservoir housing - ( I now know why my Sat Nav/Stereo would sometimes go off, then come back on again!!). I managed to disconnect both batteries in order to move it away, without electrocuting myself, but then had to reconnect the good one in order to open the back window for tools and to lock the vehicle. I readjusted the offending cable, and tightened the nut in such a way that the bend of the Positive Connector Cable kept the joining nut as far away from the reservoir as possible. I checked all the Fuses - which were fine. The only problem I have now, is that the Arcing burnt a hole through the Reservoir. At the moment it has electrical Tape wrapped tightly around it, after which I re-filled. It is holding up, but I need to know where I can buy a replacement Power Steering Fluid Reservoir, or if it is possible to repair the existing one, (Chewing Gum?!!). The hole is about 5mm x 8mm

Cheers UDTrev, Thanks Stormforce - is it a standard fit P/SReservoir for all Surfs? (No worries, let me know when you find it - Tape holding up okay at moment). Fatfires, good idea, may have a look at that - though, hole may be a bit large. Funny feeling that the Reservoir is double lined, and that some of the fluid evaporated through heat generated from the Arcing as there is no sign of seepage under the tape after topping up the fluid.Better to be in Cumulonimbus than Cumulogranite
