  • Key Stuck in Ignition

I'm away in N. Wales Caravaning, we've just returned to the site after a trip out to find I can't get my ignition key out, it's stuck in the second postition and won't turn to the "locked" position so it can't be removed, has anyone experienced this before, I did search the forums but could not find anything.

    TIA

Make sure the gear lever is in 'P' properly, give it a push forward as you turn the key.

Thanks for the quick replies pushing the gear lever hard seems to have fixed the issue for now.

It happened to me. Check back through my posts and you'll find the saga. It had been sticking on and off for ages, but, I ignored it [as you do, or at least I do]. Then it just jammed up solid, at the least convenient time.

It actually neccessatated a flat bed recovery to Toyota King's Lynn. They changed the entire ignition barrel. Luckilly they matched the new one to the old one so i've now got about five keys all the same and all fit the door locks too which was quite handy..

Its gonna let you down eventually..I got really used to just rocking the car or wiggling the steering wheel to free the key, then I booked a holiday and sods law decided to grab me by the goolies

Me too - sat there jamming it like a car thief for 2 hours.

"Yes I will move on madame ....in just a minute..... I am having a bit of trouble here!"

Tried all the things mentioned above. Eventually remembered I had a can of WD40 in the back. Squirted some in and it freed up after a minute or too like magic!

Found some grit / dirt on the key. You are on holiday in North Wales right? There will be a variety of grit and sand getting in your pockets etc!

Also happened on a discovery - slight burr to a key where the key had been used in an excited military fashion.

I wonder what you've been doing

Smack it with a 16lb Hammer and it will come off!
