  • White smoke from air vents - please help

    Guys,

I was travelling to work this morning with the aircon on full whack, for a few seconds the air vents started streaming out white odorless smoke. Parked up at work and since then water has been dripping from an overflow at the back of the engine bay (passenger side).

Everything is working fine and she is not overheating.

Any ideas, should I be worried about getting stung with a big bill?

    Thanks

Nothing to worry about. The water from drain in firewall is just where the air con condenser is and drains water from the housing. The white smoke is just a very fine water mist. It's happened to me when the humidity in the atmosphere is very high and the condenser has trouble getting rid of all the moisture. I was worried for a few seconds the first time it happened to me until I worked it out. Just make sure the drain is clear.

Just had another thought. Rather than being moist air coming from the vent and causing what looks like smoke it could be the cold dry air mixing with the humid air already in the vehicle. Mine cleared after a few seconds. Think of what happens when you breath out on a cold day. Warm air meeting cold air creates this effect just the opposite with the air con.

It can be seen on planes when the aircon comes on if you are taking off from a hot, humid place.
